American School for the Deaf

Gallaudet Hall Renovation
West Hartford, CT USA

Dickinson + Partners along with EYP-Boston, was selected to provide all design and construction document phases for comprehensive renovation to a 100,000 square foot historic facility. The overall concept of this K-12 Deaf School is to create three large education “pods” with classrooms grouped around a large common area at each “pod” for visual space gathering. Classrooms have clerestory windows to allow natural light into the spaces. Providing ample natural light and clear circulation patterns are key elements in the design concept. The materials, colors and textures of the finishes reflect the natural surroundings. The exterior masonry is upgraded to meet historic preservation standards.

Konover of Connecticut is the Construction Manager at Risk and has been working with the team from pre-design through construction documents.

Due to State budget cuts, construction never occurred.
