Governor Baxter School for the Deaf

Falmouth, ME USA

The 60-year old Governor Baxter School for the Deaf, located on an island off of Falmouth, Maine, is responsible for providing educational services to deaf and hard of hearing students. The primary intention of the master plan was to determine future programmatic needs, future growth assessment and capital construction costs for future projects.

All existing buildings were surveyed and recommendations were made about which buildings would remain and which would be removed. Major remaining buildings are the recently constructed elementary school, gymnasium, outreach center, educational center and the 1800’s administration house. These buildings will require minimal construction modifications to comply with ADA, visual communication needs and life safety code requirements. The middle and high school will be removed. New construction includes the middle school, high school and residence halls.
